A Truly Special Special Club Lineup: Gimmonet’s single village Special Clubs

The Gimonnet family has been farming grapes since the 1750s, but didn’t start making their own wines until Pierre Gimonnet set up his own winery in Cuis 1935. The now expanded winery is currently run by Pierre’s grandsons Didier and Ollivier Gimonnet. The estate focuses on vintage blanc de blanc Champagne from the Cote de Blancs, with their top wine historically being, of course, their Special Club. Starting in 2012, they began releasing separate wines from the villages of Cramant, Chouilly and Oger. These separate bottlings offer a rare opportunity to taste the different vineyards, side by side. Chouilly is a warmer site, yielding voluptuous and ripe wines. Oger’s exposition gives the wines a floral and chalky character, and Cramant has it all – white flowers, stone fruit with mineral undertones. The Fleuron is the estate’s traditional vintage champagne, balancing the rich Chouilly with the more mineral Cramant.

About Champagne's Insider Club: The Special Club
In 1971, the best grower producers in Champagne formed the Special Club, or the Club de Trésors, a club of RM grower estates dedicated to producing the finest terroir-driven Champagnes on the planet. Their commitment was simple. For each year, each member of the Special Club was allowed to release a single wine in the Special Club's historical and unique squat bottle and packaging. This was allowed to occur if and only when each and every grower in the organization had unanimously approved of the wine several times throughout its aging before its commercial release. Each of the estates here has essentially gone through a gauntlet of peer reviews and been enthusiastically approved at the tête-du-cuvée level. These are estate grown and farmer produced bottlings made with the same care and attention to detail that are given to Dom Perignon and Cristal, and are in general much less expensive. Amongst our collectors, these wines sell fast. If you need a special bottle for the coming holidays, look no further than this collection below.
