With Burgundy only getting warmer and prices for benchmark villages and lieux-dits continuing to rise, it's time for wine lovers to seek out the new up and coming producers in more unexpected places. The Hautes-Côtes de Nuits was once a largely looked over area, but no longer. With warming temperatures and young producers looking to expand, this is the hot area for much of Burgundy's rising talent. Even stalwarts of some of the greatest appellations in the the Côtes de Nuits, such as Sylvain Cathiard, are starting to expand their holdings into the Hautes-Côtes. Luckily for us, prices have not caught up to the huge jump in quality yet, and so these wines are a Burgundy lovers dream- affordable without sacrificing any complexity or elegance.

Aurélien Verdet is one of the best producers in the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, and he continues to make magic with his family's plot in Le Prieuré every vintage. Per William Kelley of Wine Advocate: "At the heart of the Verdet family domaine is the south-facing 4.3-hectare Le Prieuré, located in the Hautes-Côtes near the village of Arcenant. Aurélien's father received organic certification for this plot in 1971, something his son has perpetuated on taking over the domaine in 2005. The young Verdet worked with David Duband, and there are stylistic parallels in their wines: whole clusters, minimal sulfur and long macerations. These two vintages of his emblematic bottling showed superbly—floral and perfumed, with melting tannins and succulent acids—and they both come warmly recommended. I look forward to visiting Verdet before too long, as he clearly numbers among the Hautes-Côtes's most promising emerging talents." Those that love the beautiful perfumed spice notes that only come from stem inclusion will find this wine to be alluring in its potpourri of spices and florals mingled with lush red fruits and refined tannins. - Kelly Rau

Houston Orders

After checking out, you will receive a pickup confirmation email when the order has been pulled and packed. You can pickup your wine at our shop at 2301 Portsmouth Street in Upper Kirby, Houston.

San Antonio Orders

Until the new shop opens in San Antonio, we can transfer or ship wine to San Antonio. At checkout, choose Pick Up in Houston, and email us and we will transfer or ship your wine to San Antonio free of charge.
