When most people think of Sancerre, they think of crisp, refreshing sauvignon blanc, but Sancerre is also a hidden gem for pinot noir lovers. Lucien Crochet's Sancerre Rouge is the benchmark for pinot in this region, and has been making this wine for over 30 years! What makes this wine special aside from theOxfordian and Kimmeridgian soil driven terroir is the training Lucien received in Burgundy early in his winemaking career. He studied at Domaine Dujac in Morey-St-Denis before coming back home to Sancerre to perfect his family's pinot noir, and the results are nothing short of outstanding. Grapes are hand harvested, de-stemmed and aged in 70% barrel and 30% stainless steel for 11 months. In a world where Burgundy is creeping higher and higher in alcohol and spätbugunder is aged in oak for two years, this is a refreshing counterpoint.
