PERFUMED & ELEGANT SPANISH GARNACHA SHOWS ENLIGHTENED TRADITIONALISM
Altaroses is Joan d’Anguera’s “village” Garnatxa made from younger vines of Garnatxa (10-35 years old) sourced from 9 hectares of vineyards surrounding their cellars in Darmós. As with all the wines made at the cellar it is fermented with whole clusters and indigenous yeasts, aged in neutral barrels and bottled unfined and unfiltered with only a tiny amount of SO2. This 'village level' Garnacha overdelivers on aromatics and graceful texture, and the whole cluster infuses the wine with woodsy spices and complexity. It's medium-bodied, but with rich fruit and a generous texture despite its elegant weight. We've tracked this wine for years, and this may be the best rendition yet. The wine is reared in Montsant, the Spanish region of low-lying hills that surrounds the more prestigious (and more expensive) Priorat zone.
