The obscure Terre de Camargue IGP seems to have found its champion in Mas de Valeriole. The warm sunny region is a subzone of the larger Bouches de Rhone appellation, specializing in little-seen crosses like Caladoc (Malbec x Cabernet) and Marselan (Cabernet x Grenache). After trying Mas de Valeriole's Marselan, we're convinced it's one of the most charming characterful wines in its price level. It shows a slight floral edge, embellishing on a polished core of black cherry fruit with underlying flavors of dried thyme and sage. Last but not least, this bottling has zero added sulfur, something we found particularly impressive given the clean polished fruit here.
