The first documentation of the Grunhaus estate is in 966AD when Emperor Otto I, heir of Charlemagne, confirmed a donation that had been made to the estate. The Maximin Grünhaus estate lies at the foot of a long, steep south-facing slope on the left bank of the tiny Ruwer river, a tributary to the Mosel. In these warm vintages (2017-2018-2019), the Ruwer wines have been especially reliable for their cool site's reliable balance of ripeness and racy acidity. The nose and palate are tinged with tangerine and key lime flavors and laced up in a slate-y mineral corset with resinous tarragon tones. These are historic, special Rieslings that can pair with Pepper Twins now, or in another twenty years.
