Burgundy holds a revered status for most of our trade, but it's important to remember that there is still value if you hunt with a careful eye. Up and down the entire lineup of more than 20 wines from the estate's 35 hectares, a rich, supple, and approachable style with tremendous value is the calling card here. The prices on wines from revered premier crus like Nuits' Aux Boudots or Vosne's Suchots are always low enough to send me back to the invoice double checking pricing. While we shake our fists at the rising demand for and pricing of great Burgundy, a recent tasting brought us two highlights.
Firstly, the 2019 Mongeard-Mugneret Bourgogne Rouge has to be one of the finest values in this humble appellation that we have found in the last year. Its gentle display of ripe cherry, fresh orange rind, softly roasted coffee, and silky tannins are crowd-pleasing and represent some of the best quality we have found at this price point. We also would like to present the 2019 Mongeard-Mugneret Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Aux Boudots. This premier cru tucks up next to two of Vosne-Romanées top vineyards and is one of the deep cut collector values of Nuits-St-Georges. It borders Vosne-Romanées Malconsorts vineyard to the North (whose neighbor to the immediate North is DRC's La Tache). The co-owners of Aux Boudots are also good company: Meo-Camuzet, Domaine Leroy, and Jean Grivot all hold plots in this epic vineyard.
