After René Rostaing founded his estate in 1971, he immediately began inheriting wisdom from iconic family members; his uncle, Marius Gentaz, and father-in-law, Albert Dervieux made the Gentaz-Dervieux wines which are legends in the Rhône. Decades later after inheriting the Gentaz-Dervieux vines, he shot from phenomenon to superstar in the Northern Rhône. We get very small quantities of these wines. The style is generally restrained and classic. They possess elegance over flamboyance and often take a few years to begin to show due to their Bordeaux-like structure. Beyond Côte-Rôtie, he owns a Languedoc property called Domaine de Puech-Chaud where he farms mainly Rhône grapes with some oddities like the white grape Rolle, the local name for Italy’s Vermentino.

Early reports on the 2019s have been that this is a vintage with ripe fruit and immediate approachability, that still shows Cote Rotie's classic bacon/olive/pepper profile. The wines will show better younger than most Rostaing vintages but will still age at least as well as less acid-driven years like 2018 and 2016.
