2022 Stein "Waechter" Mosel Spatburgunder

The 2022 Stein "Wächter" Mosel Spätburgunder is a fresh and elegant red wine from the Mosel Valley, a region in Germany typically known for its Rieslings, but also capable of producing high-quality Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir). Winemaker Ulli Stein, who leads the Stein winery, is renowned for his commitment to producing wines that express the unique terroir of the Mosel, often with a minimalist approach.

The Mosel's steep slopes and slate soils are ideal for growing Spätburgunder, particularly when combined with the region's cool climate. From Importer Vom Boden: "This is, in most years, Stein’s top Spätburgunder bottling (only rarely does Stein bottle a “Reserve”), named after the famous artist who did the label, F.K. Waechter. The Waechter bottling is a selection of the best fruit (normally the wine is a touch riper, with alcohols in the 12-12.5% range) and the élevage is carried out in used 225-liter barrique including one DRC barrel Stein got from Daniel Twardowski. This is a deeper and more textural and almost lavish Mosel Pinot Noir. “Waechter” Spätburgunder is a formidable wine in its own right, dark and deep-fruited, structured and energetic."
