The legend of Vigneto San Vito involves Louis/Dressner scouts wandering through a farmer's market in Bologna before stumbling upon the market's organizer, Federico Orsi. Orsi, it turns out, was a biodynamic vegetable farmer, a pig breeder renowned for his mortadella, and something of an up-and-coming winemaker. Ever eager for their next big discovery, the scouts tasted Orsi's Posca Rosso, a continuously blended "vino perpetuo" made from and field blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Barbera, Negrette, and Sangiovese. No surprise here, the wine danced with vivacious red fruit, and a sweetly pungent perfume attesting to its honest rustic character. We were lucky enough to get a case of this limited wine along with Orsi's Posca Bianco, a nonvintange field blend of Pignoletto, Alionzo, Malvasia, and Albana. Last but not least, we're offering out six bottles of Orsi's Pignoletto Frizzante, a wine style undergoing a major resurgence. Bottled undisgorged under crown cap, it's a bracingly mineral pet-nat style reminiscent of sel gris on a well-buttered hunk of San Francisco sourdough.
