2024 Domaine Gerard Mugneret Vosne Romanee 1er Cru Les Suchots

Domaine Gerard Mugneret's parcel of Vosne Romanee 1er Cru Les Suchots lies in the uppermost part of the cru, the sector Pascal Mugneret's grandfather and neighboring families called "Grands Suchots" to distinguish it from the lower slope. Its 0.39 hectares, planted in 1939 and 1988, grow in shallow, very stony clay that drains quickly, while deeper clays from an ancient riverbed lie further down the vineyard. The domaine was founded by Pascal's great-grandfather Rene and passed from his father Gerard to Pascal in 2005, after Pascal's first career in engineering; he moved the vineyards to biodynamic farming, uncertified, in 2011. The family are related to Mugneret Gibourg, the Vosne estate whose bottles are among the most sought-after in Burgundy, and the wines reach the US through Becky Wasserman & Co., a house long associated with small Cote d'Or growers. Whole clusters, native yeast and about 30 percent new oak give a structured 1er Cru that needs time in bottle.
