Being a bigger appellation, Saint-Joseph often plays second fiddle to Hermitage but any savvy Rhone buyer will tell you, there's gold in them hills. The challenge is knowing where to look. A bigger appellation means a wider range of styles and more inconsistency but also opportunities to find diamonds in the rough.

If you haven't heard of Jean-Claude Marsanne, his domaine is one of those diamonds. Though with Pierre Gonon and Chave as his neighbors, Marsanne's holdings hardly sit in the rough. In fact, having farmed the land since 1920 his domaine was the first among those producers to make wine in Mauve, arguably putting Mauve on the map as Saint-Joseph's premier terroir. Winemaking is quite traditional, with 100% destemming and 12-15 months of ageing in barrique (capped at 20-30% depending on vintage) and demi-muids. New oak use is minimal, with the wine's defining features being burly red fruit, and a floral/savory element that combines garrigue & charred meat with more nuanced notes of lilac and lavender. Treasure hunters, grab your compass. Syrah of this caliber under $80 sure feels like a plunder. - WP

How do I pick up my wine?

Need your wine fast? Just call us! We can expedite the order and may have it ready in less than an hour.

Houston Orders

After checking out, you will receive a pickup confirmation email when the order has been pulled and packed. You can pickup your wine at our shop at 2301 Portsmouth Street in Upper Kirby, Houston.

San Antonio Orders

Until the new shop opens in San Antonio, we can transfer or ship wine to San Antonio. At checkout, choose Pick Up in Houston, and email us and we will transfer or ship your wine to San Antonio free of charge.
