Donatella Cinelli Colombini is a legendary pioneer in the world of wine. With a long family history of over 400 years in Tuscany - her great-grandfather, Giovanni Colombini was one of the founders of the Consorzio del Brunello – the Colombini family has been instrumental in creating the high quality Brunello we all know and love today. As the torch passed through the generations, the land and winery were split mainly amongst the sons, as is tradition in Italian culture. Donatella inherited some unassuming unplanted parcels that turned out to be some of the best soils in Montalcino. An incidental find this incredible would be like finding the city of El Dorado during the gold rush.
We have some incredible and scarce back vintages that are rarely seen on the market and came straight from the estate's cellars to ours. These wines are particularly special to the AOC team, and they come with our highest recommendation.
93 Points from Antonio Galloni of Vinous: "The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva shows plenty of juiciness in its dark cherries, plush, smoke and licorice. The wine’s mid-palate fleshiness and approachable personality should make it accessible in another few years. This isn’t a super-complex or structured Riserva, but rather a wine that impresses for its overall balance. Floral notes add a touch of freshness on the finish. The Riserva spent three years in oak, starting with barrels and moving to progressively larger casks. "
