2009 Luis Pato "Quinta do Moinho" Beiras Tinto

100% Baga from the vineyard by the old mill, a clonal selection planted on clay-limestone, fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged two years in French oak, with roughly 1,800 bottles made. Pato green-harvests here in early August to concentrate what remains. 2009 was a warm, generous vintage that the family compares to 2020, so the fruit is riper and more open-knit than the sterner years, but this still shows Baga's character perfectly with forest floor, brick dust and berries cut with something balsamic. It has a wall of fine, dusty tannin that seventeen years has finally mellowed.
