Antonio Caggiano's single vineyard Aglianico produces one of the best bang-for-buck Taurasi's I've had in years. The style is stunning in the deft manner it balances its modern density and texture with the incense spice, smoke, and volcanic minerality. For the unfamiliar, Taurasi is Italy's top DOCG for the muscular and spicy Aglianico variety. For those who love Brunello and Barolo, this is an obvious next stop, albeit with a bit more southern warmth.
