The famed Château Calon-Ségur is one of the most adored wines of Bordeaux's Left Bank. Along with Lafite, Latour, and Mouton, Calon-Ségur was once under the common ownership of Marquis Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur. The legend tells that de Segur was quoted saying: 'I make my wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart is in Calon.' This famous quote lives on after him on the label of Chateau Calon-Ségur, where collectors worldwide will recognize the label for its gentle red heart. The Marquis de Calon-Ségur is the second label of the property, but in great years, the wine offers the nobility and character of the Grand Vins of Bordeaux. Previously 75% Merlot, in recent years the estate has shifted the blend in favor of Cabernet Sauvignon. In this case, it has done the wine a great service. This vintage may be the best ever produced of this outstanding second label. It is full-bodied with a masculine tannic structure. The fruit is ripe with red and black currants and plums. Its complex savory character shows aromas like maduro cigar wrapper, fennel seed, bay leaf, each framed and lifted by a skilled selection of 50% new french oak.
