On offer today is the limited amount of wine from this iconic estate that still remains in the Texas marketplace. On a purely historical note, the original Henri Gouges was the mayor of Nuits-St-Georges, and the estate's dominance of this village has continued since. The reputation here is for wines that are designed to age for the long term, and I have had experiences with 2002 premier crus that still need time to soften their sharp elbows. However, in recent years, Domaine Henri Gouges has changed in a good way under the guidance of young Antoine Gouges. Quality has always been fine, but accessibility and drinkability have progressed tremendously, providing a more regal feel with a calmer elegance than in the past. That being said, prices are on the rise. The 2020 vintage will see nearly 50% price increases to the premier cru wines, sot ake advantage while prices are "reasonable". - BK
