Kermit Lynch is a name deeply synonymous with quality and only represents producers of the highest caliber, so when you see someone who worked for Kermit Lynch for 12 years start their own project you pay attention. Lyle and Eric Railsback are brothers who have both individually become powerhouses in the wine world, and they joined forces in 2015 to create Railsback Frères, a small production project dedicated to quality winemaking in Santa Barbara. Their first wine was a rosé made in the style of Domaine Tempier's iconic rosé as an homage to the proprietress, Lulu Peyraud. Produced in the same way as Tempier's, it is direct-press, vinified and aged in old oak, with full malolactic fermentation.

They have since expanded their holdings and produce a number of different wines from a variety of grapes. All of their wines are terroir driven examples of what wine in California can do when thoughtful winemaking meets some of the greatest terroir in the Central Coast, and their approach combats the notion that wines of the New World are defined solely by winemaking and oak. French in spirit, with a kiss of New World fruit and weight, these wines remind us why Santa Barbara is one of the premier winemaking regions of the world. The line up of wines ranges from refreshing and crisp Vermentino to carbonic Carignan (in the style of Maxime Magnon) and even a Syrah from the famous Bien Nacido vineyard. - Meg Van Til
