Founded by Master of Wine Morgan Twain-Peterson in 2007, the Bedrock Wine Co. is a love letter to California’s historic vineyards. With a mission dedicated to preserving and rehabilitating old vineyards around California, Morgan farms and sources fruit from some of the oldest vineyards in the entire country—think vines dating back to the 1880s from sites planted by California’s viticultural pioneers. Often left abandoned or neglected for years, these vines have somehow managed to survive through incredibly challenging times, including two world wars, Prohibition and a constantly changing marketplace that now worships big names and Cabernet Sauvignon. However, just as humans often suffer to produce their greatest arts and achievements, so do these amazing old vines, which produce wine of tremendous complexity and flavor intensity found in wines nowhere else on earth.
Bedrock's style is entirely unique and captivating. Taking advantage of the diverse terroirs and numerous old vines of California, the wines are infused with the perfect combination of terroir and California sun Expressing the terroir of each historic vineyard and the complexity from the old vines is paramount, so farming is entirely organic and regenerative, and most cuvées have some portion of whole cluster and a small amount of new oak. Adored by consumers and sommeliers like, Bedrock's wines have a purity like few other California wines and sheer quality, all without the Napa-level price tag. Nowhere else can you taste California's rich wine history so purely and honestly.
The wine is sourced entirely from the historic Nervo Ranch vineyard, which was planted in 1896! It is a field blend of mostly Zinfandel co-planted with Negrette and Grenache, as well as 14 other red varieties. The Negrette, a rare grape only found in these heritage vineyards, is a particularly interesting component to the blend due to the fact that it has rotundone, which is the same spicy, peppery aroma and flavor that Syrah has. This is a more powerful and tannic style that combines Zinfandel’s vibrant freshness with the tannic structure and savory notes of the other grapes.
