2023 Alice et Olivier de Moor Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu

Alice and Olivier de Moor bought their first premier cru vines in 2017, including 0.82 hectares of Mont de Milieu, a right-bank slope that historically marked the border between Burgundy and Champagne. Most of the parcel was planted in the 1930s, with younger vines from the 1980s at the foot; the hill is steep enough to be worked by horse, and court noue virus keeps yields from the old vines very low. The couple, Dijon-trained oenologists who planted their first vines in Courgis in 1989, have farmed organically since 2005 and add no sulfur at harvest or during vinification. Their US importer, Louis/Dressner, was founded in 1988 around independent growers who farm their own land and ferment with native yeasts. Raised on its lees in older oak, it is a dense, structured premier cru that benefits from several years in bottle.
