About This Wine
We are delighted to welcome Gianluca Grasso for a special evening exploring the wines of Elio Grasso, one of the most compelling estates in Monforte d'Alba.
The Grasso family farms within the famed Ginestra cru, a site widely regarded as one of the great strongholds of Barolo. Known for producing wines of structure, depth, and remarkable longevity, Ginestra has long been associated with a more powerful expression of Nebbiolo - often described as iron-fisted in youth, yet profoundly rewarding with time.
Alongside esteemed neighbors such as Domenico Clerico, Conterno Fantino, and Renzo Seghesio, Elio Grasso has carved out a distinct identity. Historically, the estate stood out for its ability to refine these inherently muscular wines - bringing a level of textural polish more often associated with producers from La Morra, such as Elio Altare and Chiara Boschis. However, they retain the polish and finesse from their modernist era, so while the wines are more “traditional” in winemaking technique today, the style is more elegant than many of the powerhouse Barolo from Ginestra, which is why it’s so approachable. These are wines that continue to resonate with collectors and sommeliers alike.
