About This Wine
We are thrilled to host an evening dedicated to a region we rarely have the opportunity to showcase: Alsace. For this special tasting we will be joined by Christian Beyer, 14th-generation winemaker and proprietor of Domaine Émile Beyer. The Beyer family estate in Eguisheim dates back to 1580, making it one of the historic domaines of the region. Christian trained in Vosne‑Romanée, where he developed a deep respect for Pinot Noir. He later brought Vosne-Romanée clones back to Alsace and has become one of the more outspoken voices championing the potential of Pinot Noir in Alsace, pushing the variety to new heights within the region.
During the tasting, we will explore wines from the family’s holdings within Alsace Grand Cru vineyards: Pfersigberg and Eichberg, two of the 51 Grand Cru sites in Alsace.
Within Pfersigberg lies the Beyer family’s lieu-dit Sundel, which has been in their possession since the Sale of National Assets following the French Revolution in 1792. Pfersigberg is known for its early-ripening exposures and clay-silt soils, producing wines that reflect the warmth and generosity of the Alsatian sun. Eichberg Grand Cru, slightly more sheltered and among the driest sites in the vineyards surrounding Colmar, is known for opulent, full-bodied wines with remarkable depth and intensity of flavor.
