About This Wine
Muscadet has long been misunderstood, dismissed as simple, cheap, and interchangeable, yet the Sevre et Maine subzone produces some of France's most terroir-transparent white wines when the right grower is involved. Bretaudeau's "Gaia" is a definitive rebuttal to Muscadet's reputation problem. Sourced from old Melon de Bourgogne vines and vinified with minimal intervention, it captures the variety at its most expressive: lean and tensile, with a saline minerality driven by the region's gabbro and gneiss soils and the unmistakable influence of the Atlantic. Unlike conventional Muscadet built for early consumption, "Gaia" is structured for the table and rewards time in the glass. Bretaudeau's work here belongs in the same conversation as the region's benchmark producers, Luneau-Papin and Pepiere, and represents some of the most compelling value in French white wine today.
